Hrant Dink Protest: Community Letter of Demand
Dear Mr. Consulate General:
We are writing to share with you the Australian-Armenian community’s outrage surrounding the circumstances of Hrant Dink’s murder.
The Istanbul-based Armenian journalist and intellectual’s murder on January 19, where he was shot dead outside his office, has caused much anger and heartbreak among the community.
Dink was an advocate for human rights and democracy, and had repeatedly criticised Turkey for its mistreatment of Ethnic minorities and its continued denial of the Armenian Genocide.
The political environment in Turkey fosters a youth which embraces extremist racist behaviour and discourages free speech. It is our community’s belief that this ultimately leading to Dink’s murder, for which the Turkish Government must accept responsibility.
We call upon the Turkish government to remove Article 301 of their Constitution, to accept responsibility of the Armenian Genocide and to bring the conspirators guilty of Hrant Dink’s murder to justice.
Yours sincerely,
Armenian Community of Australia
